Although his career path has changed over the years, Mark O’Neill has always had a clear focus on professional and business development, and on serving the community. He has a strong interest in property development, and has developed extensive business skills through running family companies.
Mark studied veterinary science at the University of Queensland, gaining a Bachelor of Veterinary Science. He worked at Lone Pine sanctuary, in West Germany, and as a vet in south-east Queensland, the Northern Territory, and in the UK.
When he returned to Australia in 1990, Mark joined the family business, originally as a forklift operator. He completed various business courses with the Australian Institute of Management and oversaw the rapid expansion of several family companies.
As managing director, Mark consolidated the businesses and eventually sold them to listed companies, retaining the land and buildings.
Since 2009 Mark and Tony Riddle have been keen property investors, forming Sancus Property because of the poor service they’d experienced with commercial and industrial property management.
Mark established the Rainbow Foundation in the 1990s, the funds from which were distributed for community benefit. In 2009, with John Shadforth, Mark founded the Encouragement Foundation, which has generated more than $700,000 for community organisations.
